About Me

Holly Cappello ( Holigoil ) is a Portland, Oregon, sculptor and painter.

Her artwork showcases a collection of her own mythos in a vibrant palette dominated by neon colors. Her confident use of mixed media is evident, with textured mark making in her wood sculptures, bold ink layered brushstrokes, intricate line work, and geometric shapes in her 2D paintings and drawings.

Themes of transformation and interconnectedness are primarily at play in her work, which use animal symbology and her own creation of beings as central figures. These beings have crystalline heads and flowing bodies, suggesting a being in a state of flux or creative metamorphosis. Symbolic elements like eyes, hands, and crystalline shapes, representing "inner perception” as it exists in one's mind, invite viewers to explore the deeper meanings and narratives within Holigoil’s artwork by touching and interacting with these textures in her sculptures or viewing them in her paintings and drawings.

Currently, she loves to get lost in carving wood, creating sculptures that interact with the viewer, and exploring new skills like welding and making mobiles.

Her art education includes sculpture, lost wax casting, watercolor, encaustic painting, and the anatomical design and production of human teeth, for which she holds a dental degree!

She is finishing her BFA in sculpture at Portland State University.
